the way i learned at a mechanic school i went to is that in the small small combo, you should pull the chain so the der is just barely extended. this is because you will never go in the small small combo unless you are a terrible rider. and it makes the chain the perfect length. for a dh/fr bike though, for me, i have a 1x9 set up with a short cage for that, i just put it in the small cog and pull the der so it is pulled a little more extended than in the left pic of the last 2 photos, then i just dont use my biggest cog cause it is pointless on a dh/fr bike. thats how i do it and it works perfectly for me.
The pic and description are correct. the pic on the right has the cage too far back which will cause it to 'bounce' when you hit a bump, causing a dropped chain.
@tonycooper, you are correct, but in all honesty, does it really matter? it was a great comment! and you just like flipped shit on the guy.
@cyfa89, in a way yes, in a way no, a fork actually travels the the full distance that the stanchion is, whereas the rear moves based on where the pivots are and how far back the rear wheel is. but yes, you could possibly do a few different combinations, but im not sure how well that would perform with 2 differently setup shocks right next to eachother, it might make it uneven and possible bend your stay or linkarm.
holy wide bars! what are those like 38 wide!?
you can buy similar things thats are just extendable shovles with a detatchable spade pretty much anywhere
i didnt notice that tree till you pointed it out...... thanks.
im pretty sure felt was trying to make a bike that would perform very well on both xc and am. something you could race in an xc race, then the next week race in a super d race for example.
i feel recently they have been kinda behind the times as far as their frames on their road bikes! its very dissapointing because i was a very devout felt rider until i went to look for a new road bike, their road bikes arent as nice as some of the others by fuji and such, but i dont doubt that they will put out a pretty sweet new bike in the next year or two, so they will redeem themselves.
